Super Mario Brothers on original Nintendo (highly addictive), Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter, Pong, Labyrinth, 1942 and another game involving a spaceman that I can't remember the name of... it had you floating over rocky terrain while blasting aliens... Anyone?

Oh Man! That's completely right--GAUNTLET ROCKED! They actually created a pretty great version for PS2 that you could still play with four people.
Not to tug on the girl card too hard, but Tempest, Qix, and Frogger had their appeal too. Still, I'm a GAUNTLET gal.
Oh, and we shouldn't forget Galaga. Probably one of the most popular video games of its time...

Gauntlet. Four people could play at once.
"Warrior, you're life force is running out."
"Don't shoot the potion!"
"Wizard shot the food."
I hate to think how many quarters I dumped in to that game.
