I would like to research a divorce decree and some financial records before I consider getting married again. I would like to be private about it and see if my significant others x has claim to his retirement etc. I also would like to know the exact amount of his debt before I get in over my head. I was screwed over once and will not do that again. Call me paranoid, but better safe than sorry. Is it possible to see a copy of his divorce and financial records without telling him?

Yes there is a way of getting his divorce decree without his knowledge. It is a little trickier to get the exact amount of his debt but it can be done. His divorce decree should tell you exactly what his ex is entitled to - retirement etc. You can go to the court house of the county in which he was divorced and pull up his divorce decree. As far as the financial aspect goes it would be easier for you to hire a PI to make sure you are getting correct info since it's hard for a lay person to sort through all the information.
