I would appreciate it if people didn't put religious stuff on here. I am more than fed up with it, and will report abuse on anyone that does. On a lighter note, I like dark satiracal answers. If that's not your cup of tea, I don't have a problem with it, and hope you don't have a problem with me.

What we actually spend our life on (not merely what we profess). We are shaped by our nature (observe even infant twins and you'll see individuality developing from very young - it's what makes kids so wonderful). But then there are all the inputs from relationships, books, etc and what we do with them through how open we are to them (or not) and how reflective we are. Now I'm old I still think we are each a work in progress (or not!). I agree about the religious stuff. On a more cheering note, a recent survey of Generation Y in Oz showed only 19pc churchgoers; 17pc eclectic (mostly non-orthodox beliefs, some in god); and 31pc humanists, rejecting idea of god. Contradicting Church declarations of disaster, 27pc of those "humanists" engaged in community service; there was no plague of meaninglessnes or social alienation, and no lack of communal support. So all is not lost, though one might easily think so from many questions, and answers. Fare thee well!

The answer to this is very simple.

What makes me who I am is the unique way I am related to all other things (including, of course, people).

Nothing else in the world, and no other person in the world, had, has, or will have, the same set of relations to the rest of the world that I have.

And the same (note the cosmic irony) goes for everyone.

Hm, well it isn't really dark nor is it satirical but being hard of hearing makes me who I am. I wear hearing aids in both ears and it's been a part of my everyday life since (Obviously). I'm more observant, and more artistic because of this. Without this hearing loss I wouldn't know about 95% of the people I've met. I wouldn't have moved or use sign language as a way to express myself musically. I would probably take music for granted and restrict myself from listening to certain genres because it isn't 'cool'.

I have so much money being offered to me (for college) based solely on my hearing loss.

Lots of positive things outweigh the negative and it really makes me who I am. It has molded me, matured me, and created a lot of conversational pieces. :)

Have a good one!

Who u really are?
Well, life is like a box of cigarettes,
Every puff you take, a few seconds of your life gone,
Every stick you take, a few minutes of your life gone,
Every box you finish, about an hour of your life gone,
However, every puff you take is the experience that you manage to gain,
Every stick you finish is the exposure which you encounter,
Every box you buy is the end of the road you traveled for each stage,
Whether you still live to buy the next box of cigarettes really depend on yourself and how much you have accomplish to buy the next box,
Simplicity of life is for those who do not take the stick of cigarettes are always long live with simple life,
Those who taken the box of cigarettes will live with the pass haunting them one fine day...
Who you are and what makes you are the choice and option you made in life.
Simply no regret as you are who you are...

I don't think this is dark or satiracal (sorry!), just honest:

1. What you like
2. What you hate
3. The people you know
4. The things that happen to you
5. Nature

Being me makes me who I am. I hear it all the time, I'm unique, I march to the beat of a different drum. I am who I am, if you don't like it, kiss my a$$. Thats what makes me who I am. I don't change anything about myself for anyone. And they respect that.

well I guess what makes me who I am is that I'm as my brother puts it..."eccentric"...I have a lot of interests and I don't limit myself to trying only one thing. I'm the person you would come to if you just wanted to know useless historical trivia. I'm just a strange nut I guess and that is what makes me so unique....

If you're strictly defining your self in a physical manner I guess quarks and their subatomic particles make you who you are. If your question is more like questioning why you question who you are then I guess who you are is made up by your inquisitive and creative nature.

I have no identity. And you can't expect people not to put religious responses when so many people's identities are about their religions.
