I didn't see the picture until my teens, and then on TV. But when I was six, the trailer in the theater was something the like of which I had never seen. It showed a still graphic of the figure of a person silhouetted in a lighted doorway. The copy was words to the effect, and I'm not quoting directly here but:
When you see this picture and you speak to your friends, say all you want about the man and the woman, but please -- say nothing about the child.
YIPES!
Christine Penmark seems to have it all: a lovely home, a loving husband and the most "perfect" daughter in the world. But since childhood, Christine has suffered from the most terrible recurring nightmare. And her "perfect" daughter's accomplishments include lying, theft and possibly much, much worse. Only Christine knows the truth about her daughter and only Christine's father knows the truth about her nightmare.

Scared me to death as a child, and probably would again, lol. We have an unnamed family member who could be that evil child's twin. It's creepy - knowing some people are so evil but just never seem to get caught. Great classic movie!!

Yes. I recommended it to someone who wanted to see a scary movie. I first saw this as a child. Mom had to "talk me down" because I was so afraid! Patty McCormick's portrayal of this horrible child still gives me chills! Leroy's horrible death is equally haunting. Clare De' Lune still sounds creepy to me. Best Hitchcock horror flick! Better than Psycho which I thought was just silly.

Good movie. Boy, she sure was mean. Scared me. Makes you think about birth control. There was a remake with Mackauley Culkin years ago.

Ooooooooohhhh........one of my faves. I actually saw it on late night movie when I was 10. It scared me to death. I was adopted and a handful to my parents. PLUS, I was completly phobic to thunder and lightining.
A side note........did you ever see the spin-off of Three's Company, The Roper's? Jeffery Tambor's wife was THAT EVIL LITTLE BRAT!
Had they had more seasons, she would have been the sexy landlord's wife WHO WILL KILL!

definite, I actually have. i do not recognize that I actually have a fave scene because it truly is a nerve-racking movie. i do not recognize of any really undesirable newborn who did not both boost up in an rather neglectful/abusive area, or did no longer have a extreme psychological ailment.
