I had this offline message when I turned on my messenger today... can you tell me if this is true or not???? Thanks!

Yahoo is shutting down on 8-17-06. they want to get rid of free messenger. If you delete this and don't pass it on, your name will be deleted. A lot of people have already been deleted. Right click on the group name of your buddylist and click send instant message to all in that group

It is a hoax. This is evidenced by any such warning instructing you to "pass it on." These types of chain letters are popular because they prey on fear and hope to get people to comply by scaring them.

Rest assured, Yahoo has no intention of shutting down on 8/17 - and they have no intention of getting rid of Messenger. These are core services that make Yahoo the popular draw that it is.

The best thing you can do when you get messages telling you to "send this to everyone you know" is to delete them immediately. They aren't necessarily dangerous, but their spread relies upon a gullible public. If everyone just deletes them, eventually they will disappear!

I got one and deleted it just in case it's spam or a virus
I guess we'll all find out soon enough as the 17th is in a couple of days but yahoo is a big company so I highly doubt it
