Not a thing, cut right at the collar, It is a sort of ring or lump in the bark were the branch is attached to the tree or to a bigger branch.
Cut just after that collar on the branch side, not the trunk side. That ring/collar helps the cut to heal!

Depends on the type of tree. Some trees do not require "wound paint". Some trees need help sealing out airborne diseases that may effect trees in your area. Contact your local Agricultural Extension Service or the Master Gardener program in your city/state. Happy gardening!

Get yourself a can of "pruning sealant" spray and spray on all of the wounds where you cut off the branches. You can get this product at places like Lowes, Walmart, Ace Hardware or plant nurseries. this spray is also good to use on trees when they get splits on their trunks in the hot weather because they don't get enough water.

Brian L is right. Wound paint does more harm than good. Water can get inside and rot the wood from the inside.

Nothing. Wound paints or tar only hurt the tree, not help it. Plus, they look like crap.
