No. The oiling system and the carb are set up to only run as a vertical shaft engine. If you need a horizontal shaft, you are going to have to find one. The engine will burn out quickly from not having lubrication. Why do you ask?

if you make it where the carburator sets the same way as it does naturaly, cutting the intake tube.. putting a ruber hose inbetween the two pipes n hose clamp it .. and putting an oil dipper on the crank shaft to make it sling the oil up like a regular horisontal shaft motor .. it should run just like any other horisontal 4.5 hp yes, yes its bootleg but .. ur not looking for a high dollar conversion

For a short while..... then the engine will ultimately seize up from improper lubrication.....
These engines are splashed lubed (unless otherwise stated) and can only be run safely to a degree without taking the splasher out or the oil or submerging it.

If it has a all position carb. Like a chain saw, yess. I don't think a lawn mower has an all position Casb.

It will run dry on the oil and sieze up. Get a horozontal shaft motor- you'll like it.

More than likely no because all the oil will go to the valves and piston skirt...
