recently went to Mexico and we went downtown in the shops and a lot of the hispanic men said something like "ohh bonita chikas", "beautiful" or even degrading stuff right to my face. It was a culture shock for me and something which I didn't understand. I met a few very charming latin men, one who gave me a rose, and I thought it was different how he would just blatantly walk by and smile and stare making sure I knew he was looking :) but some of them, such as shop vendors and even airport security said very innappropriate stuff, such as saying my clothes should come off, or they would give me "something else for free." Why are the men there so much more outspoken and excuse me but horny? Not all of them were, but a lot. This is not a racist question, I am just very curious as to why it was so different there than here in America?I'm sure it isn't just Mexico..but a little bit of forwardness is a good thing, just as long as it isn't inappropriate :)

I was wearing a modest tank top and a pair of blue jean shorts halfway down my thigh. Nothing inappropriate, I'm very modest and conservative.

They are indeed very forward. Having been married to one and having been to Mexico countless times, some alone, I handle Mexican men like Mexican women do, or what I have experienced as Mexican women having done. First and foremost: Make no eye contact whatsoever with any man. Not even a storekeeper. This only encourages them and says to them you may be interested. When walking somewhere, walk briskly, not looking around, but going directly to your destination. This gives the look of being too busy to bother. Not always, but works most of the time. Never ever go out alone at night. This one seems obvious. I don't even do that here in the U.S. Not once, in all the times I have ever been to Mexico, have I ever seen one Mexican female wearing shorts or a tank top. Just not done. Not by Mexican females. Usually only by tourists. Mexican women usually wear skirts. I never even saw pants. If you have to ask a stranger a question, try always to first of all remember they are very formally polite with strangers, and when you want to ask someone a question, always always always ask a female. And last, but not least, if one persists and will not stop, you may wish to answer thusly:
"?Y usted hablas tambien asi a su Mama?"
You are asking him does he also speak that way to his mother. Mothers are respected almost to the point of reverence in Mexico. Has to do with them being Catholic.
Hope this rambling answer helps.
:D

I'm not Mexican but it's the same thing in all of Latin America. It's because it's not like here in the USA where the girl has to be your friend, taken out a few times as a friend, then maybe just maybe asked out in the correct way. In Latin America you just say "Hey, babe, how you doin?" American's just don't do it that way... to be honest with you, that's why most Latinos call American men shy p*ssies.

do you be conscious of what "run and play with it" means? (in actuality, somebody outdoors of a team says something, and then the folk in contact do no longer disagree and grace of exaggerate it.) that's generally the case. (in this occasion, white human beings say "all black and latino adult men like women folk with enormous butts", and because it is not an an outright lie, yet is a sterotype, you get an excellent sort of black and latino adult men asserting this, usually to make exciting of the unique utterer, who of direction blissfully does not comprehend that he's being made exciting of.)

In mexico, it is not uncommon for men to express themselves to random women on the street. my spanish teacher is from there, and she said its a normal part of life down there. she said everything they say is supposed to be taken as a compliment as though they like you and respect women's looks, but women aren't supposed to say anything back or they are considered 'whore-ish.' my teacher also said that men would call her 'gordita' and she would take it as a compliment and stuff. it is just a part of their everyday culture, and i can see how it would be awkward for americans, b/c men just don't do that in the usa..hope this clears it up for you. they aren't being horny, that's just how they give compliments and show their love for the woman

Don't worry about it. Its a culture thing. They always say crap like that. Like "Aqui mama," or "Mmmm Mamacita!"
Yes, it seems degrading and disrespectful. But they are men, hot men expressing to you that you are HOT!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't consider your remark 'racist', but I guess, you didn't do much 'research' before you trip? Many, 'Anglo' and hispanic girls are disappearing, and showing up dead & mutilated in the desert. Check it out...

because the place is a "TOILET", they have nothing to lose, that's why they're all in the U.S., no education, no class, they are taught that women are $hit, (especially American woman) yet the liberal business owner will defend them, because he wants to line his pockets with the profit from their cheap ( almost worthless) labor.
