You run a chance on overheating the socket and/or burning out the wiring. It depends on the socket/wiring, but some light fixtures are not designed to take higher heat levels, so it could be risky. If you need to use it for a short time, then turn it off, that's probably ok, but if you intend to leave it on, especially if you intend to leave the room while it's on, you are possibly putting yourself in danger of a fire.

it overheats and could cause a fire, the higher the wattage of the bulb the more heat it produces. it is rated at 25 watts as the safe amount of heat due to clearances to combustables like the shade etc.
follow the instructions you cant go wrong

It may melt or scortch whatever is around it or blow the circut. Not a good idea. Buy a bigger lamp...

it will not illuminate well!...but if you put a 24W lightbulb that calls for 25, it could burn because you are over driving it.

to much heat for the design don't do it
