Master chalk seems to work pretty well. I received some no-name chalk as a christmas present and it didnt' stick well. The color of chalk you use is supposed to be dependent on the color of felt you are playing on. If you are playing on a green felt table, blue or dark colors are good, but if you play on pink felt (not recommended) it is good to play with a beige/pink chalk as to not leave noticable marks on the table. Blue felt is my personal favorite, it isn't as dark as green, and is easy on your eyes. If you play pool for a long time your eyes fatigue thus can cause you to lose more often.

Hey cool, I play Carom too! Most are blue and many pool halls use the same brand. Although I love to play at Carom you might want to consider 4 x 4, it's also in Flushing and they have cone chalk for your hands (doesn't work so well on a pool stick though).

blue. they usually come in a set with the pool table. or the pool sticks. no there isnt a difference at all if you use a more expensive or a less expensive chalk. ive never seen any other color chalk but blue.

I use the fine green chalk. The blue stuff is cr@p it can stick in lumps on the tip and mess up your shot and it sticks to the cue ball.
