Depends on where you live and what you want to do.
I worked in California as a humane officer. I was required to be 21 because I was out there citing people. The other departments required the workers to be 18. I know we allowed people as young as 16 to volunteer but they were allowed to do was limited. I would suggest calling your local humane society and just asking them.

Each state has it's laws and age restrictions, so check with your humane society or shelter.

You may not be allowed to work directly with animals until a particular age, but you can always help with office duty or answering phones, greeting guests, checking paperwork, etc.

Don't let age restrictions keep you from helping out...be creative and once you are legally able to work there, you'll already know the staff, volunteers, and routine.

Best wishes!

I believe it's 16 to work maybe 20 hour's a week, unless it's on the weekend. Some might only want people 18 plus. You can volunteer to start, then apply to get hired.
