I don't want to wipe out the entire drive, just write over or wipe the free space so that nothing can be undeleted later. I am running XP.

This program is called hard disk scrubber, it let's you wipe all, or just free space, and it's a small downloadable file.(333 kb).. good luck...

the reason you use it is to completely remove files that you have deleted off your hdd

wait... y would u want to earase free data? thats like saying you want to earase everything on a blank sheet of paper...
