Each of these two refer to the two major events in the history of India - one for Independence (1947) and the other for becoming Republic in 1950. These two have two major dimensions in our national and political - self ruling system and our countrymen avail the opportunity to reiterate and re-dedicate themselves on these two important issues/events. Therefore, national celebration on these two days.
It is not duplicating and both of them have different themes and basic requirements.

yes, its necessary to have Independence and Republic Day as India formed a definite govt., only in 1950. If celebrating and remembering these days is a waste then what about some unwanted festivals and rituals practised in India.These are more important than those unwanted things.

These is not duplicate the festivals indepence day got freedom fighters who fought from British invasion. so one day we should respect them..republic day the law changes and contitlude of code of rights of people we cannot make more national holidays

we are nt duplicating festivals..these 2 dates 15 aug 1947 and 26 jan 1950 are very imp for all indians..by celebrating these fest. we r actully saluting our freedom fighter and respecting them we r also showing our love towrds our mother land.. and it is very necessary to celebrate these fest bczz it speard the msg of unity among all indians nt only the people living in india it slf bt also the people who hv left their mother land for the sake of money...

we celebrate 3 national festivals -----INDEPENDENCE DAY
REPUBLIC DAY
GANDHI JAYANTI
and we are not spending more than necessary -----it is great to celebrate these festivals.
