i give my hamster yogurt chips that are specially made for hammies. i would think yogurt is too liquid for their digestive system. might cause diarrhea. only non dry food i give is a piece of raw carrot from time to time. also cheerios covered peanut butter.

It can eat yogurt, but I wouldn't advocate putting it on your finger unless you enjoy being bit. As a small treat, yogurt is not bad, but hamsters should not be given a large amount of moist food (anythign with a large water content) to prevent causing a problem caused "wet tail".
Hamsters are prone to biting before looking and if yours is not tame, this is not the way to go about it.
If you have a teddy bear or regular size hamster, they are solitary nocturnal animals. Until it has gotten used to handling, I would not let a small child hold it because of their tendency to bite . The best way to get one used to being handled is to hold it in your hand, but watching it and moving any part of the fingers it shows interest in. I can only describe it as "active handling". They tend to bite fingers that remain still long enough for them to take a nibble. If you have one of those habitrail or tube cages and it is turning on it's back when you try to pick it up, try moving it temporarily to a 10 gallon tank with a secure top so that you can scoop it up safely and handle it on a daily basis until it gets used to you.
I ordinarily do not recommend hamsters to people with young children or very little time to spend handling them, because as I have said. They are prone to biting. It usually ends badly for the pet and the people when someone gets bit hard.
But, some people have hamsters and love them dearly. It just takes time, patience and an understanding of the hammie mind. I would pick up one of the excellent books available at the bookstore about them.

it most certainly can. as an occaisonal treat or to help him when he's been sick. it has good bacteria in it. it's good to give when they are on antibiotics. just put it on a spoon and enjoy watching him lick it off. just a small amount though - like 1/8 t.
not on your fingertip. best to just hand her small bits of food for that. just let her smell u to get used to u. put her on your lap & let her explore.
