Don't do it - it might look cool now when you are young, but will look ridiculous when you grow old. Unfortunately, people don't think about the long-term consequences when they mutilate their body (i.e., multiple piercings on brow, nose, lip, tongue, belly; or tattoos).

Well, I have worked with a piercer for 4 years and I hear it hurts and doesn't hurt. I think it probably hurts. I know noses, lips, belly buttons and nipples hurt. Belly buttons not as much as nipples and lips (on your face, pervs), and noses hurt like piercing an earlobe and tongues look down right gross to me. Eyebrows, I just do not understand, but some people actually look good with it. Anyway, my point is this...I think it depends on the person. Some people respond well and it doesn't really bother them. Some never recover fully and have marks and scars and it hurts so bad they end up taking it out. Know your pain threshold before you finalize your decision. If you think for a moment you will regret it, don't do it. Or wait longer, do the second lobe piercing, and do the hard stuff later. Also, find out if cheloids run in your family. You can much more easily develope one if you have a relative that has had one. It is a painful scar and I do not recommend it.
Good luck deciding...and don't go to the mall to do it. Look for a reputable piercer at a tattoo shop or jewelery shop where they make all of their own pieces. Check the place out first and ask if they use all new, sterilized pieces and tools for each piercing. If it doesn't come out of a package or cup of solvent (and ask what kind of solvent...it should kill everything!) LEAVE IMMEDIATELY!! The needle, the forceps, anything they are going to be touching you with should be as sterile as a Dr's office (or more so, as most of those places do not have insurance) and should be one use only. And the piercer should be wearing gloves. Be careful, where ever you go. Each state has different rules, regulations and laws and some have none!

Getting the cartilage pierces is quite painful. I have a very high tolerance for pain and my cartilage piercings were my most painful.

Just so you know, your lobe actually goes a long ways up before you reach cartilage. I have five piercings on my left lobe. Many people mistakenly think that is cartilage just because it goes up so high but it is not. A good piercer can feel your ear and let you know how high up you can go before reaching cartilage.

I would go to a reputable body piercer.

i have 15 piercings, 12 in my ears - 3 lobes on each side, 3 cartilage (2 on my left, 1 on my right) and industrial in my right ear and my left rook.

all i can do is beg you, seriously, do not go to the mall. please please please. no body should get anything pierced at the mall. besides the fact that it's not clean, they don't use the proper tools, and the jewelry is all wrong...do you really trust a 15 yr old girl with less than an hour or so of training to stick metal in you? i wouldn't.

if you want it done, then get it done. don't ask about pain or whatever, if you want it, get it. end of story. just go to a real piercer. ask around for a reputable piercer. call. check them out. make sure they're safe and clean.

i had my cartilage pierced and it didn't hurt at all. i did it myself with a big safety pin. to get the cartilage pierced, your best bet is to go to a tatoo parlor to do it. most piercing places like pagoda or claire's won't do it on the cartilage as it requires a different tool than an ear gun. good luck to ya in your decision.

i have my cartilage pierced.. i love the way it looks. its a little uncomfortable the first couple weeks if you sleep on the ear you get pierced. as long as you keep it clean it really doesnt hurt. i say go for it! and if you find you dont like it as much as you thought, you can always allow it to close up.

I pierced my own cartilage when I was 17 and, 12 years later, I've had no problem with it. Yeah, it hurts, but it's very quick, and it looks really cool.
Go for it.

I got mine done a while ago. It didn't hurt at all. But get it done at a reputable piercing shop; it's safer than a mall kiosk.

you should not do it because there is a risk of facial paralysis... is it really worth it? i wanted mine done when i was in high school but decided it wasn't worth the possible consequences... if you decide you just really MUST do this, go to a professional, not a kiosk.
