My 90+ year old grandmother says people have thought the end was near about every 10 years since she was a child.

It's natural to believe that our generation is the "chosen" group of people to see the End Times, because everyone desires to be unique and special. However, even with that understanding, there are some valid points to consider, at least from the Judeo-Christian perspective.

The Prophet Ezekiel, in chapters 38 and 39, describes the "War of Gog and Magog". Many Christian theologians, most prominently Tim LaHaye and Jerry Jenkins of the "Left Behind" series of books, believe that the battle Ezekiel describes will be a battle between Israel and the combined armies of Russia, Iran, Syria, Lebanon, and Ethiopia, with the main adversaries being Russia and Iran. Certainly, three of those five countries are at the brink of war with Israel.

Other speculation, notably by fulfilledprophecy.com, states that the position the Antichrist will hold has already been created in the EU High Representative, a position currently held by Javier Solana. The Bible states that the Antichrist will come from a revived Roman Empire, that he will control a "beast with ten horns", thought to be a ten nation alliance like the Western EU (the military branch set to come online in 2010), and that his mark will be 666, which happens to be the resolution number that gave this office the power to control the military of the EU in times of emergency. They believe that someone in this office will broker a peace deal between Israel and the Arab nations, ushering in the seven year Tribulation period.

So, to answer your question, yes, some folks think the world is coming to an end over the current Israeli situation.

I'm not saying that the fighting in Israel is not serious, but there has been fighting for many, many years and the world is still here. (Although its not in a great state)
I think if the end of the world were coming, we probably wouldn't know about it anyway because it would happen so quickly. Especially, if it was caused by man in the form of nuclear bombs.

Therefore, no I don't think the end of the world is coming. It'll probably happen when we least expect it.

"Coming to an end"...everyone says that but no one can really explain it. Certain people'd worlds end every day. The middle east has been at war with the middle east since there has been a middle east. Israel was created in the middle of a sh*tstorm and remains in one.

The only people that ever scream about the end of the world are those with some sort of an agenda, a mental deficieny, or a scam. They know that fear can motivate, and to those that would like to control, the concept of the apocalypse is a useful tool.

Aren't ALL the Jews supposed to return to Israel before that happens? Do you think the likes of Stephen Spielberg will give up his wonderful life in California? How about Paul Newman? Do you think he will go trapsing off to Israel to promote destruction of the planet?

Of course I fear the world's end. It is a self-fulfilling prophecy. If someone wants the world to end, because its predicted, he or she will make it come to an end. We just need to find out who's gonna get their finger on the button to do it, and stop their insanity before it happens.

Somewhere in the Bible is the passage: "The Earth abideth forever." I think it's in Proverbs or Ecclesiastes.
