my friend is moving out to Alberta and she is selling her car cheap, she's kept it in real good shape and always parked it in the garage. I know the car well but i'm just looking for advice from people on here that have owned one. do they break down often or have any defects...recalls?

one Bill don't crack on Vegas I've owned three and no other sub-compact car can pull 1500 stock to 35000+ full race. But for you I've owned one 1986 Cavalier 4 door and drove a Z24. Questions to ask before is does she have all her service records of any and all repairs done. Then go the dealer and ask them if there is any recalls. If not there go one line to Ac Delco Parts at Genuinegmpartssite.Com links to all gm needs.

I think they are excellent cars. I owned a 1988 Z24 and I could kick myself in the a** for trading it off. I wanted a Chevy S-10 so I traded my car. I never had any problems except usual wear and tear. I have'nt seen a car yet that did'nt have some kind of recall on it. I would say buy it cause sounds like the lady has kept it up. 2.8 is a good motor.

Well, they're not really BAD cars, jut not great cars. A well maintained vehicle built after 1993 is usually better than anything built in the seventies. Young people don't remember the horror of the 1971 - 1986 vehicles coughed-up by the domestic auto makers of that era. I still have nightmares of Chevy Vegas rusting on the showroom floor and giant Ford LTD's falling apart as they wallowed along the streets......brrrrrrr.

I think you mean a Z24. They are ok cars. You're obviously not looking for anything too fancy, or you'd be looking for something else. With that said, it will get you by just fine. They are reliable cars, and they have plenty of room for 2 people, the back seat is cramped though. If it's been kept up well, and you continue to, you should be able to get many years of use out of it.

Awful cars. They're 80% plastic and 20% crap.

In all seriousness, stay away from the Cavalier. The z22 is no better than the regular cavalier. It's just a marketing ploy.

They all need to shut up. Cavaliers are great cars as long as you take care of them just like any other car. I have an 03 LS and its great no problems
