Reminds me of the joke where a guy was trying to sell toothbrushes on the sidewalk, with absolutely no success.
So he gets some dog ****, puts in on a plate with some celery, and puts a sign up that says 'free sample'.
When people try it, they say 'bleech, that tastes like ****!' He says, 'it is. Wanna buy a toothbrush?'

how do you know that nobody wanted to buy before even trying to sell? when you first come-up with a product, you must have the potential / targeted customer in mind, if your selling / convincing skill is not up to the mark, get/hire someone to do it for you, anyway i don't think this is a 'travel' question !

Must gain full knowledge of the product => Define your prospects => Understand what your prospects need? => Match your product features / benefits to their needs => Overcomes all the objections that may raised by your prospects.
