"Self cleaning" models run roughly $200 more than "manual cleaning" models. On a low end product this is a 30% increase. Do they work and are they worth the added expense?

Yes they are. Be very careful to read the manual though. Heavy food deposits will cause a lot of smoke in the house so some pre-cleaning might be necessary. You should remove the racks before running the cleaning cycle as they tend to change color and may rust over time after heating them so much. I've seen people think they need to use the locking mechanism while cooking and this creates the problem of having to wait for the oven to cool sufficiently before they can reach the food... can be a disaster at dinner time! You should also never use any oven cleaners inside the unit as deposits left by most of them will cause "hot spots" and can damage the interior coating of the oven. With proper care and a little reading they are quite nice and will last as long as any conventional oven.

Yes its safe But be very careful when removing it from the oven its a bit to flimsy and you may burn your self. Try carefully sliding it on to a firm surface like a plate or a heat proof tray be for serving. most ovens supply as a drip tray which will double up as a baking tray. try using this unless your oven is a micro wave being used as such. this last statement was made as some micro wave oven are also convector ovens and grills

first of all they do work kinda... they hold the same concept as a dish washer...you still have to get the grime off the dishes before you run them through the dishwasher...right...ok well basically you have to put the stove on wash and then it works its thing then you have to manually clean it... so is it worth the added expense i would say no...save some money and buy oven cleaner

Yes. I love mind. I've never scrubbed my oven. Just set it and let it go. Just a tip... when the cleaning cycles goes, it takes 2-3 hrs and it get REALLY HOT. Basically, it burns everything out so don't freak out the first time you use it.

I think so. It cleans fairly well, and easily, and you don't have to deal with the fumes and mess of oven cleaner. That stuff is WAY too toxic.

One problem I had you will have to consider is that when we used ours, the smoke alarm was set off.
