Politely, depending on the topic also.
If you are with a group of familiar people, it is alright no matter hoe you ask as long as they are not offended by your tone. But if you are with strangers, it's better to do it nicely or you may not end up with a response, or worse, they may play a joke on you by telling you the wrong thing.
