Two self-governing dominions within the British Commonwealth legally came into existence at the stroke of midnight on August 15, 1947. The ceremonies for the transfer of power were held a day earlier in Karachi, at the time the capital of the new state of Pakistan, to allow the last British Viceroy, Louis Mountbatten, to attend both the ceremony in Karachi and the ceremony in Delhi. Therefore Pakistan celebrates its Independence Day on August 14, while India celebrates it on August 15.

Because Indians are very superstitious. Their fortune tellers told them that 14th August 1947 which concided with 27th Ramadan is very bad for them. Quran was reveald on the night of 27th Ramadan and this night has been described by Quran as "Better than 1000 months". To some scholars on this night Quran was sent from Ursh (The throne site of The God) to the first sky i..e the sky which we see which contains all stars. There are six more skies beyond these as Quran tells us. Some Scholars have taken this that the amount and magnitude of work for humanity done in this night was otherwise not possible in 1000 months. If you see that Muslims under Quranic guidance soon became the leaders in civilization and founded all modern and laboratory scineces, hospitals , universities etc. etc which then led to renissance in Europe.
Islam absolutely prohibits superstition. Quran says Children of Israel were told to deny and reject superstitions and false gods but they didn't and hence received the punsihment from the God.
So your question is very relevant and interesting. Normally when one thing breaks two parts occur simultaneously but in this case one is delayed becuse of foly and superstition of of some people, so they opted for next day i.e. 15th August.
