Secretariat ran the Kentucky Derby in 1:59 and 2/5, but he is the only horse to do it under 2:00. The KY Derby is 1.25 miles and 2:00 goes into an hour 30 times; so multiplying 1.25 by 30 = 37.5 mph. For a short burst a race horse can go faster than that; but that was the easiest computation I could think of using the well known "Fastest 2:00 in sports".

Edited. After seeing the answers showing 50 and 55 mph for Quarter Horses I checked for fastest times for them. The fastest 300 yards ever recorded was in 14.909 seconds which results in 41.159 mph rounded to three places if I did it right. I would guess that both Thoroughbreds and Quarter Horses are capable of very similar bursts for just a second or so, but since it isn't sustainable the average over 300 yards has already dropped to just slightly faster than a Thoroughbred can sustain as Secretariat proved by running the Belmont Stakes 1.5 miles in 2:24 flat which again = 37.5 mph.

all horse breeds can run at speeds b/w 35 - 45 mph.....the thing that makes them so good is that although there are a lotta animals that are too fast for an horse like a cheetah is capable of touching 72 mph but for very short durations like for around 300 - 400 metres ... because they have very less stamina( they cant go further coz their body temperature begins to rise beyond normal level and thay could kill themselves if they continue).......but horses can run smoothly at their regular speeds for regular distances even carrying one or two humans on their back......coz they have a tremendous stamina

The timing could be out. Checking & resetting needs a mechanic with the proper lining up tools.
