I don't think they are,I think its an amazing life style to go with. I don't think that being a woman has something to do with carring a purse, wearing lip gloss all the time, and going out shoping. Some of you may have a different opinoin, but this opinion right here is my thoughts on how I feel about tomboys. I realy think that a little mixture of some girlie girl and some tomboy is the perfect woman for a man....well thats what I think. Some people seem to think that tomboys are lesbians because of the way they dress or if they want to leave all the drama behind and hang with some guys. Isn't a lesbian a woman who's attracted to the same sex, shouldn't some people know that? I know some lesbians and they are complete girlie girls.

I agree with you 100%. I grew up being a tomboy myself. All that means fro me is I'm not afraid to break a nail, getting dirty isn't the end of the world, and forget carrying around a purse cause it's not going to happen. Does that make me a lesbian? Ask my husband of 10 years and see what he says.
Being a tomboy only means that all that girlie stuff can stay with the girlie's, not me.
I can hang out with the guys and not feel like I have to put on a show.
If my lip gloss comes off it's not the end of the world.
I do like to shop though.
So for everyone who is confused, tomboys and lesbians are still 2 very different people.

Let me shed some light on the subject. I'm a Tomboy and i'm also an Lesbian, not all Tomboy's are lesbians. It just means we don't like to wear dresses, make-up, high heels, stockings and carry a purse. It does'nt mean that we didn't have our mother's around us like someone else mentiioned.
A Tomboi is still a woman, in my case i'm a woman who love women, as i mentioned before it does'nt hold true for all Tomboy's.

I had a classmate in uni once who was a tomboy and really acted butch but she's actually straight. Our classmates often thought she's lez but she wasn't. They never knew that I was the lez and yet I was all girlie-girl back then. LOL. ;o) So yeah, I agree... not all tomboys are lesbians.

I guess people are just ignorant so if they see a tomboy or a butch woman, they assume immediately that she's a lesbian.

I agree. I would much rather shop for electronics than clothing and makeup any time of day. I like being girlie at times and makeup free at others. I think we fall into prescribed roles; sometimes to fit in or impress others rather than being who we are. I think people can be very shallow and want to assign gender and affection preference and roles based on stereotypes.

I agree with you! I know you are looking at this from a straight perspective but I noticed that not alot of answers looked at this from a lesbian perspective. My partner is very much the tomboy. She's not what some lesbians refer to as "bull dog" butch but she has no time in her life for foo-foo! LOL!!! She appreciates my extreme femininity but as for her personally....forget it! There is NO shame in a tomboyish woman. It think it's VERY sexy!!!

Exactly right.

And you know what? My mom's a grown-up tomboy and straighty-straight. She has to femme up a bit for work, in her appearance, but her "tomboy" attitude helps her get along in the male-dominated companies she visits and get along great with her mostly male co-workers. And guys like her, too.

A male friend of mine says what he wants more than anything is "a buddy with breasts" to marry. :-)

Stereotypes and ignorance. I've known straight women who are more "butch" in their natural being than a whole lot of lesbians. It has nothing to do with sexual orientation. I'd give you 10 pts for the question if I could. Well said!

ppl think that tom-boys are confused because they don't fall into stereotypes of what a woman should look like and thus they get confused. Its usually with very narrow minded thinking individuals whose brains malfunction whenever other people do not fit into moulds of what they perceive should be right.

Yeah I agree with you about a tuff sexy female!

I couldn't deal with a girl that spent hours getting ready or one that was so stuck on her looks every time it was time to go to the store or park.

There is a time and a place to be foofoo!
