i have a small ac unit in my bedroom, i have had the unit for almost two years and never had a problem with it leaking into the house but about two days ago i noticed that when it would cut off (i have it on energy save) that water would drain out of the bottom onto the floor. could this have to do with me having it on the coldest setting for a while and just recently turning it up? (due to recent heatwave) or is this an issue with the ac unit itself!?

to all the genius's who yap about drain holes,,, there ARE newer ACs that DO NOT have drain holes!! they are made to retain the condensation to cool off the enclosed motor and parts!! She could be right in her suggestion that she is over working the unit and too much water is building up!! this usually occurs when the unit is turned off for the day or night and restarted often.. let the unit run at a lower setting when you are not needing the big chill and it will stabilize!! THIS is NOT to say she doesn't have one as you guys suggested!! She may and you all would be correct in YOUR suggestions!! But there ARE non-draining units!!

First unplug the ac from power. Then make sure the unit has not tilted inward rather than outward from the room. If it has tilted inwards, either retilt outwards again for it to drain, or place a wedge under it so it will tilt backwards. If that works go no further. If it looks the same, go outside and see if the tube has anything stopping it up. Sometimes a bug will crawl inside and jam it. Next check for dirt or any kind of buildup near the drain hole in the bottom of the unit. If there is anything that appears to be a buildup, algae, leaves, bugs, etc., remove that and it should drain. Now go back in and replug into power and see if it will continue to drain properly. Observe for a day or so and if ok, inspect the unit about every couple of weeks when in use, and use a cover in the off season to keep trash out.
Good luck with it.

Dirt accumulates on the coil when it is operating and the moisture that builds up on the coil helps wash it away, after awhile it will clog the small hole that allows the water to drain away from the unit, to the back or outside. That can be one cause of the problem. The other could be that the unit has slightly tilted in, the fan will keep the water pulled away from the front until it shuts off, then gravity takes effect. Check level (front to back) with a measuring cup sitting on top. Fill to half way checking on counter. Set cup on top with marks towards the front. You want the water mark to be higher then the mark you had on the counter. If the level doesnt work, the unit should be removed and cleaned. Remove the screws that are holding it to the casing, pull the unit out (might be heavy , get some help) take it outside and hose it off real good, let dry for a couple hours, tilt it on its side briefly to drain the water and reinstall. Again check your level.

I'm assuming this is a window A/C.
They have holes in the bottom back of the case (underneath) to let the condensation drain out. Algae (green slime) will grow in the water and clog up the holes.....

CAREFULL find the hole and using a medium size nail or something about that size try an unstop the drain hole.
Don't push the thing in more than a 1/2 inch or else you could
poke a hole in the condenser coils and it would never work again.

sounds like you have a window unit. Your unit has a drain pan with a plastic tube that goes outside. The drain pan collects condensation and the tube empties the water (condensate) outside. Periodically the pan gets dirty and causes the tube to clog up. You may have a clogged tube which causes the pan to overflow into your room. Clear the tube and your AC should be OK.

Allright. Listen baby. That mofo is made to drain out the back. If it gets tilted toward the inside, it's gonna drain in your bedroom. Sounds like that's what's going on. If tilting it back doesn't stop it, then the drain pan on the bottom probably has a hole rusted in it or a drain tube inside is rusted through or otherwise cracked.

It may not be tipped back far enough.
