I just got married April 3rd of this year and my 17 and 12 year old sister's were my witnesses. I had called the courthouse ahead of time and asked them, and they said they didn't recognize a certain age limit just to be a witness. (Eastern North Carolina)

Most (or maybe all) states require that your witnesses be 18 or older. When I married my husband, my son was there, he was 9 at the time, and we thought he could be our witness, but he was too young. Since we got married at a courthouse, we had to ask someone who was getting married about two couples behind us to witness our wedding to make it legal. If you find that you have to do that, make sure you get the person's address so you can send them a thank you card.
