Probably not, because the test measures HCG (human chorionic gonadotropin), which is made by the placenta. You wouldn't have it in your blood if there wasn't some sort of pregnancy.
I had light, spotty periods for most of my first pregnancy, and it's true that many women lose weight during the first part, as you have.

It's not unlikely, being on a diet may sometimes interupt getting pregnant, but just because your losing weight doesn't give you reasons to believe unprotected sex won't make a baby. This must be a hard time for you, pregnancy test aren't always accurate, maybe it might be an idea to go have a blood test at your local GP. You can then decide what you are going to do if you are pregnant. It helps to find out at the earlier stages rather than waiting too long, as a decision does get harder. I am a mother of 3 daughters, & my first had her bubs at 16, she is now having another by choice as she is in a loving and stable marriage. Good luck sweetie, hope it all works out.

A pregnancy test can always be wrong, but a false positive is unlikely, also I've never heard weight having anything to do with test results...it can affect your ability to conceive, but the test is chemical and shouldn't be affected by your weight loss (congratulations btw). I used to be very regular and in the last 6 months or so have been experiencing "late" periods with little possibility of pregnancy (my husband has had a vas.) so you may just be going through some changes. I would suggest a second store bought test and if you get a + then go see your doctor. Good luck :-)

I would guess that your diet could making the pregnancy test be "more positive"--if there is such a thing--because you are probably dehydrated. That is, the HCG hormone is probably more concentrated in your blood if you are not drinking enough liquids. This is why the tests are generally most accurate with "first urine"; your pee tends to be the most concentrated at that time.
However, I don't believe you would have any significant levels of HCG in your system if you were not pregnant. Concentrated or not, I would take a positive result as accurate, and consult an obstetrician immediately. You will want to stop your diet for now, and talk with the doctor about safe alternatives.

Over the counter pregnancy tests can always be wrong, even if they state 99% effective. That is like saying condoms are 99% effective. That comes out to a lot of kids that are out there. I wasn't suppose to be able to get pregnant and was told that for 14 years. I even talked to a fertility specialist. Then decided to accept the fact of no kids. I was on the pill because of endometreosis, and still got pregnant.
Also, are you on any other medications. A lot of medications can trigger false positives. If you are in doubt go to your doctor and tell them that you need to have a blood test done. The urine tests in drs offices are better than over the counter, but still not as accurate as a blood test.
Not uncommon to lose weight when pregnant. Hate to tell you that. I lost 25 pounds while pregnant with my daughter.
Hope this is helpful and that you get the results you want.

No, false positives are very rare. Some women get their period while pregnant. You could also be bleeding for a number of different reasons. I am 12 weeks pregnant. I have had light spotting and I have lost 7 pounds since finding out I am pregnant. Of course morning sickness probably isn't helping me.
Call your doctor's office ASAP and stop dieting!

You can lose weight and be pregnant. A girl I worked with ended up losing 20 pounds by time she delivered.
You should see your doctor to find out, and to make sure the diet is safe in case you are pregnant

No, your weight loss cannot give you a false positive. However, many women lose weight in the early months of pregnancy. I would strongly suggest you see your doctor.

I've heard that those things sometimes give false negatives, but not false postitives. Your weight loss would be irrelevant to what it's testing. Best to go to the Dr right away to discuss your options.
