I agree, only I would go farther - let them work a real job &
have their political jobs on the side. Forget health insurance,
they should know what it's like to pay for it.
Yes, if we weren't supporting them with the taxes they squeeze
from us, there would be alot more money for disasters,
like Katrina.

I agree with limiting their ability to take fat pensions and get top medical care for nothing. They make enough taking bribes while in office or else why would they spend so much for a job that pays relatively little for them. Foreign aid was to slow communism which is now gone and since we get no respect anyhow why not use that money for our poor. Health care paid for by the government is where things will eventually end up so they may as well cap it now and try and save something. The time for good public servants in congress or other branches of the government has passed. All we can do now is get term limits and at least cut down on the pension and health plans.

There is only one way to make a politician lose their jobs... that is to VOTE then out! You do this by voting for their opponent and getting your family and friends to vote for their opposition too!
They make the laws... and the only way we can get a law to limit their power is by a National Referendum vote... that takes quite a bit of work. But it is time that the "grass roots people" stand up and be counted again... and to take the power away from them.
Washington DC is a "hell-pit" because it is full of hypocrisy, greed, sin, deception and corruption. The only way is to put new politicians in Public Service. It would be a good thing that every Senator and Representatives only be allowed two terms like the President. It would also be a good thing that their terms be each changed to limit them to 4 years like the President instead of 6 years for Senators and 2 years for Representatives. This way they would not have time to buckle under to Lobbiests and be swayed by Special Interest groups...
It takes more than 40% of the votes to un-seat an incumbant from their seat in Washington DC... So this takes a lot of work for the voters to get this done... and to get the voters to vote this strongly agains a politician once they are elected to office.
But it is time to be cautious with our votes... to elect those who will listen to the grass root voters. And DO NOT BE FOOLED by election promises... Most politicians remember the voters at election time and will speak "retoric" and promise the voters what they want to hear... DON"T BE FOOLED! Judge your politician by their voting record the years they were in office. You can get a report of their voting record thru the Democratic Party and Republician Party web pages...
Washington DC needs a total cleaning of corrupt politicians and they usually become corrupt after two terms in office. Take back your power... Vote for the opposition! and get the "life-timers" out of office!

i SO agree with everything you said...except the 'end all foreign aid to most countries...'
if we got out of this expensive war and quit trying to take over the world, we'd have some extra to help out others. it amazes me that the first thing bush did after the hurricane in australia was to offer support ($$), when he couldn't even find a way to fix the aftermath of katrina. cheney and rumsfeld are pulling his strings. if those strings were snipped (how, i don't know), he'd fall even flatter on his face than he is already.
GOD! how i love this country that i can say that and not be arrested. no, i wish no harm to him, i just want him to GO AWAY.

You sound like a libertarian. Take the quiz! (link below)
You should read up on www.lp.org. Fascinating stuff. I've been a libertarian all my life. Neither of the major parties suit me at all.

In a perfect world, your plan is GREAT!
In this world, they control the authorization on how much they make. So getting them to give themselves a cut in salary is going to be tough.
