Well for the most part they are not aesthetically pleasing, but then neither is a cement truck. The cement truck though is what you want to have when you are paving a driveway as hauling all of that wet cement around in your Jag convertible is really tough on the upholstery. Likewise, if you carry around a couple of kids, groceries, bicycles, luggage for vacation, etc. a good deal, those minivans are pretty attractive alternatives to sitting cheek to jowl in a standard passenger car.

My kids are grown these days and, well, I did buy the Jag, but there are more than a few times I look back wistfully on the days when I had a minivan and never had to worry about how I was going to pick things up or haul things away. I also remember how romantic it was just to throw a sleeping bag and some pillows in the back, with a bottle of wine and tell the wife we were going camping. Try that in a two seater!

If you are looking for a good compromise though, if something fundamentally bothers you about the minivan image--think about that Dodge Magnum wagon. You get most of the hauling capacity of a minivan in a very attractive car--something that actually handles like a car as well. Splurge on the hemi V-8 version of it (340 hp) and you can even wave bye as you suck the paint off the sides of my Jag on your way past.

Ugh, minivans are hideous. Fullsize vans, however, look ok.
I think it is because the hoods are too long on minivans. And then they put those goofy long headlights on them that go up the sides instead of straight ahead like a good head light should.

Toyota used to make a cool looking minivan back in the late 80's I think. It was an early Previa, and it had a short hood. It looked more like a scaled down full-sized van rather than a butt-ugly minivan.

If you are family man or a soccer mom I think that they are very useful not exactly a sports car but most people that drive them like them for the roominess and let's face it gotta get better gas mileage than a full size van which is the real reason why chrysler first introduced them
