besides recycling, can someone tell me what i can do to help the earth?

There are many many things..
Among the most important is vote for pro-environmental politicians.
For example, the Everglades are still there, not because real estate developers had compassion for the creatures that live there, but because the government made laws to protect it, and is willing to enforce those laws.
You can check the environmental record of most national and state politicians at the League of Convervation Voters website: http://www.lcv.org
Remember that things like slavery and child labor didnt go away until laws were made to abolish them. Its the same with environmental destruction. Trying to save the earth by just recycling cans and newspapers is like trying to do away with slavery by recycling cotton. We need powerful laws to limit what corporations can do to the environment. Unfortunately, those corporations are powerful lobbying forces. Thats why its so important to vote for politicians who care about the environment.

You can recycle many things, not just your garbage.
You can give away or donate things you no longer want, use or need.
You can recycle your car, cell phone or computer.
You can bring a canvas bag with you when you shop.
Recycle your plastic garbage bags.
If you have a backyard you can have a compost bin.
Drive a Hybrid car.
Use Google & search for Craigslist or Freecylce in your area.

drive a hybrid instead of an SUV, or a fuel flex car, or a more fuel efficent car =) thats the big one since cars are the leading contributor to the carbon dioxide in the atmosphere which is speeding up the process of global warming.

Car-pool or catch public transport, ride a bicycle or walk. Refuse bags in shops, compost organics instead of throwing them into rubbish

use fluorescent bulbs instead of incandescent.
re-use packing envelopes.
recycle plastic, paper.
bring your own bags when food shopping.
don't drive unnecessarily.
Cut grass after 7pm.
turn down your heat to 65 or less in the winter, turn up your AC to 78 or above in the summer.
Mulch grass clippings instead of throwing them away.
