Yes, you can simply replace the oil but the leak will get worse over time. Switch to a heavier weight oil, such as a 20W-50, although that might be too heavy if you live where there are cold winters.
It's hard to say how quickly the leak will get worse but you can be sure that it won't get better. Sorry...

Get it fixed as soon as possible. $300-$400 to fix is cheaper then a new motor is going to cost u in the long run. They do have some products out there that will seal the leak. Check with ur local auto parts store and c what they recommend.

Look from underneath down the back side of the engine between the silver aluminum cyl head and the black engine block. Is that what I think it is? Yes neons have bad oil leaks from the head gaskets. Invest in oil futures by the cases of oil and keep pizza boxes so your friends will let you park out in the street. Check oil daily keep smelly oil rags in the car not under the hood where they might get loose and touch the hot exhaust and catch on fire. That dark stuff you see on back bumpers of neons is oil spray.

Change the PCV valve, and be sure it is operating properly. A bad valve/plugged system will allow the pressure in the crankcase to rise and cause leaks. It will usually start at rear main, then front, the elsewhere.
Your leak may not get worse, but (depending on how bad it is) you may run out of oil------not good!

yeah lucas is good.
theres also some stuff i found in a can at my local autosense that is like $15 a can, its supposed to be even better than lucas.
Neons arent good cars.. i'd say drop the transmission on your own, buy the seal, or a good tube of silicone, get it on there and bolt the tranny back on.. it's alot of work, but after you've done it once, you'll be able to do it again much quicker.
The 4th time i had to pull the motor out of my firefly(tranny bolts on the side) it only took me 25 minutes to take out all bolts, wires and hoses, had the motor out sitting on the floor.
I did this with my dad the first time, on my own the other 3, it was simple.

it will only get worse, try a bottle or 2 of lucas oil treatment. its not going to fix the problem but i have seen it work wonders. i often sold it to my customers who couldent afford the repair right away. (make sure its lucas white bottle with blue label) other companies make similar products but lucas works.
