I mean is England closer to the east coast of America than the west coast of America is to the east coast of America. Or if I am in England and another person is in say California which of us would be nearer to someone who was in New York? What is the milage and/or time difference please?

You must be American. England is nearer the East coast of America which is why flights between the two countries are over the Atlantic as it's the shortest route. Time difference - I think NYC is 5 hours behind and California 6. I have no idea about milage.

The difference is actually less than you would expect. Without a map in front of me, I can't say exactly, and it also depends a lot on which part of the east coast you are considering, but time-wise, the standard world-wide is Greenwich Mean Time, which would be 0:00; the east coast is four hours behind, or 8:00, and the west coast is another four hours, or 4:00. Of course, Alaska is another hour behind, and Hawaii another yet.

when you fly to England they take the Atlantic route because it is the shortest and saves fuel. The West coast is further away and maybe 2 hours difference. The west coast still fly over the Atlantic so it must be the shortest route.
Remember the Pacific ocean is the largest ocean and therefore must take the longest to fly over.
California is about 1750 miles further from England than New York.

The length of England to New York (basically crossing the Atlantic) is a whole lot shorter than crossing throughout Eurasia then crossing the Pacific just to get to California

Look at Google Earth! If you do not know where England is then type it in the search and work out the answer for yourself assuming you know east from west!

East coast is extra advantageous. Predictable tides, warmer ocean waters, daybreak on the sea, super fishing, much less fog and smog, lots of water, fewer earthquakes, wildfires, and mudslides. notwithstanding on the west coast, there are fewer hurricanes, lots of light, on no account too humid, sunsets on the sea.

Of course it. England measures 200 miles at its widest point. America measures 3000 miles...

If you fly from London to LA it takes 8 hours. If you fly to NY it takes 6 hours. If you fly from Glasgow to Washington it takes 6h 35m. If I fly Glasgow to LA it takes 7h 45m

New York is 2000 miles from California give or take. Whereas England is 3600 miles away from NY.
