do u know how he got in? how far down is it when u take off the cover? set small books he can climb on inside and leave the cover off. put small bits of broccoli or carrot or nuts or something so he'll come for the food & make a small trail up & out. put his cage there on the floor with the door open & watch & listen for him. also put a bucket or trash can outside the vent with books leading up to it & more food on each book so he follows the trail and falls into the bucket.(put the most foodin the bottom of the bucket) keep the air off until he comes out.

My hamster went in my heater once. We thought it was a goner. What we did is we took the cover off the heater to make sure it could very easily get out. Do the same with your vent. We left it's food out in the open and listened for the hamster, and in like an hour or so the hamster was in it's room eating the food. Luckily our heat was off, make sure you turn off your vent. And be more careful next time! I know I sure learned my lesson.

first you need to take off the screen, but as the hamster is already inside I will guess its off. If you have some rope that is about 3/4 to a inch around tied to a weight that can be loewerd down it could climb up? if it has food at the top to lure it up?
But that is a long climb if it is a long drop.
If its a short drop like 10 inchs the rope will do it.
If its a drop betwen floors you will need to find a lower vent. mabe all the way to the heater.
They make Mouse traps that dont hurt the mouse. if your hamster is small enough to fit in one tie a string to one and bait it and put that down the vent. if your hamster is big you may want to use a soup can with food inside. Tie a string to the open side and wait till you hear the hamster inside the can them pull it up.

Well if food or water doesn't I draw him out I suggest you close off all vents except for one. Remove the cover from that vent and place his food, water, cage and a special treat at the open vent. If that doesn't work..........you may have to call in the cavalry...which would be of the feline species.

Give it a couple of days though with the food and such, his bedding is his home and he should want to return to it. At least a vent is a fairly closed environment, but he may catch cold if the a/c is on.

Hamsters are hoarders. They like to pack their food in thir cheeks. Place a line of food outside the vent about a three foot stretch. Put his/her cage on the floor with the door open. You may need to set up a ramp in the vent depending on how deep the vent is. Same with the cage if the door isn't low enough for it to reach. Same thing happened with my daughters. Caught him the same night he was lost.

he probably hasnt died. the air people cant crawl around all over & find him. did u try some the suggestions offered before? do u even know for sure he went down there? he'll come back for food. listen for him late at night. open all the vents so he can crawl out of one. just make him some kind of steps so he can get out. i dont think the vents lead outside but if they do find out where. dont give up!

Can you get to your ductwork?? You may be able to get to him that way.

You can also try putting some food in a live trap right outside of the vent.

you can try to lure it out by setting food out for it by the top.or,if you can,try to seperate the vent ducts in your basement to reach it.you may even be able to get advise from an exterminator.hope you get it out soon.we always let our cat help us(not eat it though).they sniff around for it,so we watch the cat.then we know where the little thing went hidding on us.good luck on getting it.
