I've been using a portable CD player for my commute for about 12 years now. It sounds fine, and I like listening to full CDs. But all the cool young people have MP3 players, so maybe I should switch. My question is, do MP3 players have anything close to CD quality sound? I have the cash to buy a good one, but I won't waste my money if the quality is not there.

get an MP3. if you can, get one of those $499 Ipods, they hold 10000+ songs (if they are around 3 mins apiece)

the sound quality is excellent, assuming you have a decent pair of headphones.

Yes, depending on how you're putting your mp3s on there....

If you're ripping your cd's directly and putting them onto your mp3 player then you're going to have the same quality as your cd. However, if you were to download from sites such as Bearshare or Limewire or whatever, the quality of the mp3 can be quite different depending on the kbps, or kilobytes per second. If you have a low quality mp3, say less than 100, then you're getting into the range where the mp3 sounds like your fm radio. If you're getting a mp3 with a song that's around the 200 range, like 192, then that's near cd quality, if not it. So that's from that stand point.

Another thing that can affect the quality is if you want to listen to it in the car or not. If you decide to go along the cliche route and get an Ipod, then you can get devices that can be installed in your car so that you can listen to your mp3 player through there. However, if you don't get an Ipod most of the time you're offered an fm transmitter. That's definitely nowhere near cd quality. So, if you do your homework and compare what you want and what you like, then you'll more than likely find the best mp3 player for you. I do recommend getting one because you can fit your entire collection onto there vs. changing out the cd, and you can put it on dj mode so you can listen to a variety of your collection.

Seriously: get a portable mp3 cd player. its basically just a cd player with a special chip to play mp3 encoded files. if you use this, you can just burn your music on many cds. just imagine. if each cd holds 700 megabytes of music, and you have twenty, you're already with more music than a nano. and yes, cd's have the best sound quality, burnt or un-burnt, because i dont know why, but cds always sound better than mp3players. i would go for the mp3 discman, not a normal one or mp3 player. get a panasonic shock-wave (i think thats what its called) it costs about $120 canadian.

i think the quality is around the same but discman will be a bit better. If its about the quality of sound that only bothers you, stick to the discman. I prefer mp3 because its smaller and i can change the music once in a while, the quality is normal and i dont mind. If you buy an mp3 player, i suggest an ipod for the sound quality.

I've been a DJ off and on for the past 14 years, and for my own listening pleasure I won't touch MP3 players. The compression format cuts off the upper and lower frequencies and slaughters the harmonics. Most people claim not to be able to tell the difference, but I suspect most of the same people haven't compared head-to-head on the same headphones/stereo. Yeah, it's great being able to carry thousands of songs, but honestly, I can't listen to that many on my commute to and from work. I'd rather carry 3 or 4 cd's and enjoy quality over quantity.

The quality is dependant entirely upon how you port it to your computer. If you take up an average size, it's going to sound CD quality to an exact. A four gig iPod will hold a ton of CD's worth of music while still being CD quality. If you've got the money, I'd say go for it.

properly, maximum have responded your question. both play mp3 songs, yet both fee in a special way and diverse in style component. For MP3 CD participant, the battery existence will relies upon on no matter when you're playing a classic CD or MP3 CD. standard CD will utilise more effective power to the 'Anti-marvel' function. when you're intending to purchase a MP3 participant, i'd recommend that you get one making use of flash reminiscence instead of HD if a possibility. HD MP3 utilise more effective power and in case you drop it.... pray not person-friendly that it's going to be ok. the subsequent question you may want to ask your self will be -- how certain are you with the usual of the song you're listening to? CD high quality vs MP3 high quality.

Oh, hunny, if you have ANY kind of commute--get an MP3. MP3 sound quality depends entirely on where you got the file...if you copied it from one of your cds, it sounds like your cd. If you got some crappy lo-res free download, well, it sounds like a crappy lo-res free download. Paid downloads are usually a little better. The flexibility is amazing--it's like a six bazillion cd changer in your hand...(I've got the 30 gig...I can't even imagine filling 60..)

I would switch to an mp3 player because it is smaller and you don't have to keep chnaging your CD's. But if you like the Discman that is good too.
