As concrete as dreams may seem to be, the senses are not as rapidly or quickly syncronized as in the waking condition. I think it is the memory of the alert consciousness that it takes with it to the dream state that allows the difference to be understood.

you wont know there are 2 types of dreaming.. the conscious and the unconcious, if u are talking about the unconscious dream, then u wouldnt know.
