advance auto parts have some of the boots in stock,,since yours is a small one they Will have it in the help line,,of auto parts,,i have bought just the boot,,if the tie rod is still in good shape i wouldn't replace it,,and i have been a certified mechanic for 35 yrs,,i usually do what the customer says do unless i see its going to be a safety hazard to them,,but if your is good,,you can get one at advance,,i hope this helps.

Trust me the boot is torn and grease is contaminated with dust and water. Do new tie rod ends (2) don't scrimp with control items. Almost the same amount of work after you pop the end loose from the strut / knuckle and break the jamb nut from the tie rod just wind that thing off of the inner tie rod. Before you do anything jack the car wheels off the ground put stands under the car be safe! wiggle the rim in and out at the top and bottom and left and right there should be no slack/play

You are not going to get the boot seperately, not for a tie rod end, maybe an axle. A tie rod for the Metro will be dirt cheap and not a difficult repair. Try http://www.ebay.com and search for 97 metro, you will find a tie rod end. I would suggest a local parts store and save on the shipping cost.
