what is the difference between VICE and DEPUTY?

both are similar
VICE - One who acts in the place of another
DEPUTY- A person appointed or empowered to act for another.

but VICE cannot be DEPUTY

The "deputy" arrests people for "vice".

vice means "in place of"
deputy meansa person appointed to perform the duties of a more senior person in that person's absence.
