Find a hill and run the sh!t out of it. That will build your explosiveness.
As will jumping rope. You should do that before and after every practice, on some hard surface somewhere. It'll build the heck out of your calves and help your leaping ability.
As for catching, just ... catch. Always, always ALWAYS look the ball into your hands. I can't tell you how many times, even on NFL games, guys will turn their heads to look upfield just before they secure the ball ... and they drop the darn thing.
Catch with your hands, not your body. Snatch that sucker out of the air and pull it in tight to your side. Cover it with two hands before you get hit, when you can.
As for route running, KNOW your yardages. Coach should be able to help with this. If your route calls for you to sprint out 7 yards and then break in, find your spot before you even line up. Don't watch it, though, as you'll be telegraphing to the defender that you're planning to make a break. Know how many steps it takes for you to cover X number of yards. Memorize it.
Good luck.

Catching skills.....Get a friend preferrably a QB and have him gun the ball to you for maybe 20 min a day, he will like the throwing practice you will like the catching practice. Speed......Form running, jump rope, sprints. Route running.....Run routes you can do this by yourself or with your QB friend you will both enjoy the extra practice plus it can be fun, especially if you get somebody to cover you.

Squat press will really help you build those legs.
Route running is just studying where to go. Just practice them over and over and think about how to lead the defender away from the ball.
Catching, just practice. Your hands will become more adept to the ball with time.
Best of luck :)

aight, i know this may sound a little funny, but its something that Sean May did to improve his hands. I know he's a basketball player, but it should work the same. get your friend with a good arm or your dad or brother or someone to take the ball. Turn around with your back to the thrower. Then as they are about to throw it, tell them to yell your name. You have to catch it or it will smack you in the face. It should work.

i think with practice you can become a better reciever and definatly learn to catch better.
here are some quick tips:
when you run out for a pass, look over the shoulder he is throwing it to.
Also, try running up and down your yard three or four times, to help you get in better shape and build your endurance so you can go farther and faster.
