I just want to know why our black american professional athletes are so stupid and assumed to be portraid as roll models! ( I am a black athlete , but I speak perfect english).

Its where they come from I guess. Black or white, college sports are a good way for underprivileged kids to get an education. Some college sports lead to a nice professional career, and thats how this comes about. You just sorta have to look beyond it knowing they aren't scholars. Professional atheletes aren't really seen in the same light as they once were. I mean, guys can come from the Dominican Republic, Cuba, or wherever else in Latin America... speak 5 words of english, and get a multi-million dollar baseball contract. Things are just different now I guess. Hope this sheds some light.

They're entertainers. Professional sports are not as much about athletics as they used to be. Now its who can get the biggest and best commercial deals from their athletic careers. Who can insist on the biggest paycheck based partly on public fanfare? That kind of thing means hitting the niche that fans seem to buy into... and right now - its that hip-hop type of culture. lol - even some of the pinkish tan pro athletes try to join that band-wagon. So sad.

Because in some parts of black culture, your looked down upon by other blacks if you don't speak like the group, which in some cases, is ghetto talk. They say your being a sell out, and forgetting your roots. Sad but true.
And ofcourse not all of them are like this.
Why did I get a negative 2 vote? I'm not trying to come off like a jerk, I'm speaking from experience, I grew up in that aspect of black culture I explained above, and this is what I experienced everyday. Not all black people act that way, but some do because after while, speaking like that becomes a part of who you are as a black man for some people. For some it gives you identity as a black guy. And many guys like this put a lot of their time durning highschool into basketball, because sports is one of the main things praised by some parts of black culture for young guys to get into to succeed. I'm just speaking from what I saw happening as I grew up in this kind of environment as a black guy.

They are not stupid at all. They just are brought up differentially. They also are not taught correctly or taught the importance of it. A lot of them get away with it because of their talent. Personally it doesn't bother me at all. I'm used to it and I figure it's just part of who they are. I accept people for who they are. But if they need and want help I will help them make adjustments

it is not limited to athletes. you are probably an exception if you speak perfect english. too many speak "ghetto" or "gang" or other dialects, do you understand what i am saying?

We learn to speak by imitating our parents, then our teachers refine our speaking skills in school. So, the problem is poor parenting, poor teaching, inability to learn, un-willingness to learn, or a combination of any of the above.
I agree also, that it is a shame to have role models speaking so poorly. Maybe so far no one whom they respect has been brave enough to point out how un-intelligent they sound.

Because of the culture, they don't care, they want "free money" for being a jock, the do not see the value of an education, white people put up with it and they end up on drugs, blowing all their money, shooting someone, hanging with white women and loosing it all................then complain about the welfare system that they don't git enough..............I don't know....just a theory!

Good for you.... maybe it was how they were raised. Just because someone doesn't speak "perfect" English doesn't make them any more Neanderthalish.
