Smart has nothing to do with it.
Everyone KNOWS it's a wise idea to wear their seatbelt, yet many people don't.
Everyone KNOWS that smoking will kill you, yet look at the number of teens that smoke.
Everyone knows (or should know!) that using a condom is essential and incredibly important... but guess what? Many people still don't. And the people that don't are those with the least experience: namely, young teens. Simple as that.
Young kids are not emotionally prepared for the consequences of sex. You wll understand when you have children of your own. I guarantee it.

They are uneasy because that means that if they have sex there is always a possibility of getting pregnant or catching STD's no matter the age and if a young person becomes pregnant you got to deal with the fact they may not be old enough to hold a job and are still in school which makes it more difficult to support a baby so it all falls back on your parents....and no parent wants to see their youngen catch an STD...it's a heartbreaker...noone says they are not smart enough to do it safely....it's that there is always a risk...so better to be ready and prepared at an older age.

Adults are so 'uneasy' about kids having sex because we once were kids and have learned from our mistakes. That's the point of being an adult, we pass on our experiences and wisdom to the younger generation. When I was young I thought my parents had no clue about life but now I know I was the one who had no clue.

KIDS having sex(*&$%^&*()_)(*&^% .yikes...thats rediculus. Kids should stay on be kids. Learn the normal kids way and do. Go see cartoon, play baseballs or hide & seek, play doll, go picnic, go Q & A in the adventures forestry trips, go swimming, watch movie or something. Its all about maturity and how fast or sensible a kid compared to adult think when something goes wrong. We dont want to hear early pregnancy or internal bleeding from our kids when u got home.
When u are old enuff and mature enuff or one day when u have your own kid, then you know why we are so worry about this. Study parenthood and refer to books. Having sex is not the only thing that make you happy...and not the only reason a man and a lady got married...think twice my sweet dear. Never too late to turn back.

Have you been reading the Q & A for any length of time? Look at all the could I. am I, pregnancy questions. Aparently their are many people who do not practice safe sex. Let alone all the STD's you can get. Plus the fact parents don't want their child to get a reputation, or to send them off to therapy later in life.

idk...my mom had me when she was real young (16) and she's always tellin me not to have sex because it was really hard for her to take care of me and that she had to drop out of school and get a job and everything and she said that she thought that she would never get pregnant cause she was always safe...i guess you can never escape the consequences of having sex no matter how safe you are. But i get where you're coming from adults totally under estimate how smart we really are...

1. They don't want the burden of your child if you got pregnant, since you obviously couldn't support the child.
2. They don't want you to get sexually transmitted diseases from having sex with more than one partner.
3. You're not married.
4. They think it's wrong.
5. Parents realize that there is no such thing as "safe sex," whereas kids think there is.

Because there is always the possibility of young kids getting pregnant or gating an STD. And also because they believe we are not ready for, and that sex should be shared with the one special person you get married with.
