What's interesting is that most people that listen to Rush are die-hard fans. There really aren't any people that are middle of the road fans.

Aside from the fact they are obviously some of the most talented musicians (and anybody that disputes this doesn't understand music at all), they have all stood the testimate of time (30 years and counting). Each album going Platnum or multi-platnum shows they have a very strong following. Each album having lyrical themes. And for the most part, each song being thought provoking to the point of philosophical discussion.

Having achieved the highest civilian award from the country of Canada, I'm not really sure it's that important of the R&R hall of fame to recognize them. Even though, for their genre, they are certainly a strong influence for modern day prog-rock bands, such as Dream Theater and the like. So it doesn't make any sense - because I'd think anybody that is an influence for modern day music should certainly be a strong canidate.

For R&R to not have recognize them to date is just another reason for me to believe that the Hall of Fame is merely a cute spin to hype bands voted in by a committee that is clueless.

Because Geddy Lee has an atrocious singing voice? Don't get me wrong, they're all VERY tallented when it comes to playing their instruments, but listening to Lee's voice is like gargling broken glass: At first it's interesting, then it's just downright painful.

Maybe they are so much of an amazing legend, they just can't handle putting them in yet. Their legend isn't yet completed.
