I agree. Liberalism is about freedom of thought for individuals, limitations on power (especially of government and religion), progressive taxation, the free exchange of ideas, a market economy that supports relatively free private enterprise, and a transparent system of government in which the rights of all citizens are protected. Smaller government, however, is a conservative ideal. Or, at least, it is supposed to be.
Smaller government equals less intrusion equals less debt equals more liberty. And liberty, after all, is where the word "liberal" comes from.
Excellent question. I've seen some of your previous questions and I must say that you have done your fair share of vengence spewing, as have I. There is enough hatred in the world without faceless, nameless, Y!A junkies adding to it.

What a great thought. But I can see from some of the answers your getting that the hate and partisan politics isn't going any where any time soon. Just your name is p!ssing people off. Since i don't see too much hope that the 2 sides will come together, I'm hoping for a viable 3rd party to rise up and break the grid lock in Washington

It's acceptable because too many people do it to punish folks for it.
To change that, we've have to set better social standards, and shun those who engage in hate-based rhetoric purely to be spiteful.
Peer pressure is the only solution. It has nothing to do with government controls, because if we leave that up to the government, they're only going to stop the people who disagree with them.
To stop this requires more people taking the moral high ground, and saying they they refuse to listen to anyone, of either side, who is that irrational. It requires people shunning those who rant and rave and spew hatred, and it requires refusing to stoop to their level.
The question is, are we better than those we hate. Or do we have to stop hating first, so that we can become better.

Why mix up hatred for the ideas and hatred for the people? In politics, just as in religions, I hate the ideas, but I don't mind the people, even those who support the wrongest idea of all.

A long time ago the rich of the south promoted racism because it kept the poor white people against the poor black people... and neither against them.
We are above racism now - okay, not really... but... abortion plays that role now.

I think it was Charles Krauthammer who had this to say about opposing political philosophies when it comes to discourse:
Liberals think conservatives are stupid.
Conservatives think liberals are evil.
