What kind of things do you look for and how do you find this information?

if the company's publically traded, you can check their filings with the SEC - you can read their annual report - then you'll know where they're located, what their strategic business plan is, et al. Many industries publish their top executives rates in Crain's and other business publications - lots of corporate officers now have blogs (like lutz from GM), that give another flavor and angle on what kind of people a corporation may look for. You can also look up their competition and see what others in the same industry are doing.

I would spend some time talkingto some of their customers, some of their suppliers, and some former employees, if you can locate any. If they've offered you a position, they should be fine with at least offering you some of thgis information. If they get indignant and refus, that's an indicator, too. Alsoi check with the local media, Better Business Bureau, even some of their competitors.
