You can get a pond liner from most nurseries.

Dig a hole in the shape of the pond you want, line it with the liner, edge with rocks, or water-loving plants. Fill with water. Add minnows (cheap - buy em at the bait store). They will eat any mosquito larvae for you, so no mosquitos spawn in your pond.

There are also small solar fountains. A small panel near the pond powers a little fountain that floats in the pond. It sprays when the sun is out. No electric needed.

It's lovely, soothing, and fairly cheap. ($100 for the liner, $40 for the fountain) And digging for a liner is easier than with a pre-formed pond liner, which hurseries also have, since you don't have to match the hole exactly.

Well if you are going for cheap here is what my hubby and I did. First we dug the hole in the yard the size we were going for, then we dug a lip around the edge of the hole the width and approximate height of the rocks we gathered to edge with. Now, we did not go out and buy that SUPER EXPENSIVE pond liner, we simply bought 2 black, heavy duty, painting tarps in the paint section at the home improvement store. I guess in your case of a small pond you should only need one folded to double thickness. We used these as our liner in the hole. Then placed the rocks on the ledge which held the liner in place along with a few larger rocks we placed carefully in the bottom. We then trimmed any extra tarp and filled with water. You can buy small fountains that sit at the edge to finish off the look you are going for. I hope this helps...best of luck ....there is nothing like the sound of running water to relax you!

My folks made one with a precast tub, lined with pepples, some big rocks and a sump pump,
The electrical cord ran through a window where is could be plugged in, activating the fountain/waterfall. The frogs loved it!
