see this is exactly why most americans don't like your game because you won't give ours a chance if you stop complaining about stuff and watch the game and learn it it is actually very entertaining i love your game too because i read up on it played video games and got really used to it. we don't try to say our football is better than yours we just understand it read the rules play the games and you'll like it i promise

Okay...here you go.

First of all, preseason games are a bore. Don't watch them. Because the point of the preseason is not to necessarily win games but to try out players.

Second of all, look at the sheer velocity of the game, as well as the weight of the players, and you'll realize why helmets are needed. Considering a soccer player rolls on the ground for five minutes after getting a shin kicked, imagine what would happen if you were a wide receiver speared by a linebacker with a combined collision speed of 40 miles per hour. The reason we have padding and helmets is because so many people died during the early games.

Third, stop thinking of it as a fluid game such as soccer, and start thinking of it as a gigantic chess game. No other sport weaves strategy and action together so successfully. There are endless permutations of tactics on every single down in football. If you truly bother learning the game, then you will begin to understand it more fully.

Hope you can watch more games with an open mind, especially after the real season begins. Watch some college games. They're much more fun, anyway.

Huh? As opposed to the diving, playacting, no-scoring metrosexuals who can't hit the net in what I assume is "your" sport as anyone who calls it "American" football must be a Land of Eng person?

OK, here's how to get into it on TV. Just watch hilites. That's what I do with soccer now as I cannot stay awake watching a live game that seems to be timed with a sun dial. Do the same with what we call football. I love the hilites--just the best hits, bombs, TDs., etc.

"American" football is slow. It's geared for TV breaks. You might want to try watching a college game--way more of that fan atmsophere. I'm not a HUGE fan of the college game and am more of a CFL (that's Canadian football) as it's way more wide open and passing. Too bad the CFL is not beamed into your home.

Lastly, how can you not like the helmets--they look cool period! Beats the leather helmets they wore in the '20s.
Also, if you go to a game that first down yellow (Why is yellow gay? Is the line gay? How did it become homosexual? Who does it bounce butts with--the yardsticks?) line is not there. It's just there on TV so the viewer can tell how far it is to get a first down.

And, of course, ALL pro sports symbolize commercialism from beach volleyball to the NFL. Having a soccer guy say that is insane. What is Beckham but a commerical fop? What was that World Cup Finals but a giant marketing ploy as the play of the field was brutal this time round?

Helmets are necessary. American football produces some of the worst injuries in sports, and that's with all of the protective gear. Don't compare it to soccer, or you won't like and or appreciate the sport. A lot of the sport consists of players tackling each other so they need protective gear. Cheers!

First of all the helmets keep people from dying because unlike soccer when you get hit by a line backer you dont go off the field crying on a stretcher and come back on the next play. You get paralised and break bones. And if you dont like it learn to drink lots of beer thats how i watch soccer when I have to!

Why don't you just go back to that pussy "sport" as you call it which resembles a track meet where they kick a ball around all day for little or no reward a lot of times. If you don't find our game enjoyable, turn the channel. Don't criticize oue entertainment and we won't criticize yours! The helmets PROTECT THEM (in most cases) from serious head injuries. You don't ride a bicycle or motorcycle without one do you? All right then!

If you're talking about tonight's preseason game between the Raiders and Vikings, then you're not watching at a good time. I must admit that ESPN's job was lousy to say the least on the game. But it's a preseason game. Watch it on Sept. 7, when the regular season starts, and watch the strategy, etc. behind it.

If you don't care for the game, then why bother watching it? I personally don't care for soccer so I don't watch but I don't criticize the game either. The little yellow line is to help the viewer know where the first down marker is located.

That's why its called AMERICAN football. It wasn't meant for your enjoyment. It's a game that obviously requires a little bit more thinking than a game like soccer. Just go back to your simple game and enjoy it.
