Do Vietnamese people hate Chinese People? If you do, why? Is it because they are (like) a giant compare with you? If you do hate, then I would need the fact, not the personal things just the historical facts. AKA, they invaded you, the enslaved you or they were never a good neighbour? Need answer ASAP, HW project, thank you!

I'm only answering this because the other answers you got weren't very good. Also, this answer is off the top of my head; I'm not researching it.

But I have read the history of China and also the history of Vietnam, and I can tell you this much. The French colonized Vietnam in the 19th century. China was also weak then. But before the colonial era, China was the dominant power in the region for centuries. During the Ming and Qing, and also earlier dynasties, Vietnam and other Southeast Asian countries were tributary (vassal) states of China. They had to pay annual tribute. Also, in the case of Vietnam, unlike others except Korea, there was an extended period (maybe a thousand years) when Vietnam was not independent of China. Other Southeast Asian countries just had to pay tribute to the Celestial Empire, but Vietnam was under Chinese subjugation.

The Vietnamese always tried to be independent, but for a long time, it was impossible.

Vietnam wasn't always unified. I think there were three kingdoms (I forgot their names) -- one in the south (Saigon area, but the French started that); one in the ancient capital of Hue; and one in the north (Hanoi). The experiences of these three regions with respect to the Chinese varied, but I've forgotten the details.

So that's the history I can tell you. Based on that, there has been traditional animosity on the part of the Vietnamese toward the Chinese.

French colonization changed all that, of course, because in the 19th century, China was opened to the west as well. After Mao's defeat of the Guomindang and Ho's rise to power with the Viet Minh (after Dien Bien Phu), then there was communist leadership in both countries. But even there, Ho Chi Minh was a nationalist who resisted control from Beijing. True, China supported the North Vietnamese during the war with America, but the Vietnamese leadership always made sure that the Chinese did not exercise too much control.

That's all I have to say. I could give a better answer if I looked stuff up, but you can do that too.

Bottom line ... right now, I think "hate" is too strong a word. But there remains substantial skepticism on the part of the Vietnamese toward the Chinese. Since China wields so much economic power, Vietnam must continue to guard its independence.

Hope that helped.

It isn't a "personal" thing. A Vietnamese person doesn't "hate" a Chinese person as such. It is a "historical" thing, based upon Chinese imperialism. Sort of like Irish people "hating" English people.

Keep in mind that the Chinese have always regarded themselves as a superior people, the Middle Kingdom (half way between man and God). In the "middle" below God, but above all other peoples. This explains their traditional destine for the Vietnamese and their culture.

Unfortunately, many Vietnamese ppl dislike Chinese ppl b/c of traditional steorotypes. Historically, Vietnam was one of the original Chinese kingdoms in the south, but migrated further south b/c of lack of farmland. The two cultures eventually grew separate, and Vietnam ppl began viewing their northern neighbors as "decietful, untrust-worthing" stereotypes (China tried many times to attack Vietnam all but once ending in failure, and that was b/c of a dynasty coup from within). Much like the same way the Japanese look down at the Chinese, the Vietnamese do the same. Many of the "Western stereotypes" of the Chinese having slanted eyes, buck teeth, and the half bald/pony tail are also deeply held in traditional Vietnamese culture. Vietnamese ppl consider themselves bigger, more masculine (they have more facial and bodily hair and are actually physically larger on average), politer (Again, Chinese stereotype as being loud ppl who shout and have a very annoying language), and are more physically attractive. All of those, however, cannot be waited against the typical Vietnamese ppl that you find in America b/c of historical migration tendencies. After the Vietnam War, only the poorest fisherman or farmer Vietnamese ppl could escape (the typical dark and skinny Vietnamese image), while the Southerners (the Viet Cong's enemy) who are more "civilized" and appealing in appearance, were unforunately raped, killed, or imprisoned (unspeakable attrocities happened to these ppl that to this day have never been portrayed since all Vietnam War movies selfishly only entail the American plight, which is miniscule in comparision, and of course the Modern Communist would never speak of their own war crimes). Long story short, very similiarly to how the Japanese look down upon the Chinese, the Vietnamese ppl do the same. Also, Chinese ppl don't have the letter "r" in their language, Vietnamese ppl do.

P.S. Vietnamese stereotypes are just that, stereotypes. Personally I have many Chinese friends who are good ppl and are some of my best friends since childhood. I am simply retelling cultural biases to bring it to light, not spread hate or animosity in any way.
