Q: "why dont we send people to mars or create a advanced manned space craft"

Key points:

1. Lack of Gov funding
2. Lack of Technology
3. Lack of public interest

Basically what you are saying is that if we the people inspire the media to start asking questions then congress will start giving answers and in turn supply more funding creating better technology?

Now you're gettin' with the program. NASA isn't always perfect at developing and utilizing new technologies, but they did a fair job with putting probes on Mars, to say nothing of hitting an asteroid billions of miles away, and SOFT LANDING another probe on the asteroid Eros.

I feel there's not a lot to be gained from sending people to Mars. Spend the money on giving people here clean water.

Once we come up with some amazing energy system, and can travel beyond our solar system in weeks or days, rather than years - then I'll be interested.

They play it safe, as do so many other "explorers" today.

If you look at the Old World explorers, they went out in boats that would sink in a strong breeze. If the idiots at NASA spent less time on checking every little detail to make sure it was perfect and more time on regular launches, we'd all be drinking happy hour coronas in an orbiting bar!

Russia or China need to do it first, then America will get scared and start funding NASA again. Yay Sputnik!

Yes, they need more funding. Otherwise, humanity is stuck on this God forsaken planet forever.
