Are you sure it's electricity they are being attracted too? I had ants coming into my apartment, through a crack under the back door. They were in a column about a foot wide, heading right to my refrigerator. I figure it was either moisture or perhaps old food under the fridge that they were after. I had just moved in, and that was how I found out how attentive the previous tenant or the landlord was to cleaning the place up!

If your having the same problem, some tips - Don't spray anything inside - they have a scent trail they are following - distrubting that will result in the buggers all over your house/apartment. Instead set up some stations along the trail using a product called Terro - this is basically sugar water with Boric acid - the ants eat this, take more food back to their queen, and it slowly poisons the whole colony. It will take several days/weeks to work, but it does the job. You can also spray the outside of your place with a residual poison, and use products similar to Terro to bait the outdoors too.

They aren't attracted to the electricity, they are attracted to the heat that electronics generate. And electronic devices are not only warm inside, but dark, and generally a safe, uninvaded home. Actually, I've never seen ants being attracted to electronic equipment, it's usually roaches, silverfish, or other insects that we consider pests.

electric wires produce a magnetic field and the ants are tricked into thinking the wires are the same magnetic field that's produced by the earth so they are just trying to find the ground
