That sounds like a problem that I recently encountered. My friend had Norton Internet Security. After I uninstalled that, his computer was FINE. Of course, I then installed a different anti-virus solution.

1) Run the msconfig utility. Go to Start, then Run and type in: msconfig
Go to the startup tab
You will see a list of all the programs that are loaded when your computer starts up. Uncheck any that you do not have to have. (Usually you can uncheck them all). If you decide you to need one, you can go back and recheck it.

2) Check for spyware. Run both Ad-aware (http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaw... and Skybot (http://www.safer-networking.org/)...... to remove any spyware. Run both as one may caught something the other missing. Then go to microsoft.com and download Defender to protect against future infections.

Run msconfig and see if any unwanted softwares are starting. stop some services like messenger, alerter, etc. If you are using an antivirus like Norton. try disabling the service. U can do this by going to Start>Run>services.msc , U can see all the services running. try stopping the antivrus service from there.

Find the driver/s that has the problems in "My Computer" and right click on it. Go through all of the settings. There should be one that has a timing prog on it and you need to disable it.
