I think that you should burn a lot of different kinds of music. I know for myself what kind of mood I am in determines what I want to listen to. To be on the safe side take a lot of different stuff that you like that is suitable for different kinds of moods. So that way your covered no matter what.

Some stuff from my labor CD -

We'll Be Together Tonight by Sting - this played while I was starting to push with my youngest and I was alternating between laughing and crying because it was so PERFECT!

With Arms Wide Open by Creed

Beautiful Boy by John Lennon

Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue

Aquarium from Carnival of the Animals by Camille Saint-Saens (#2 and #3 were waterbirths so I thought it was very appropriate.....it's also a very relaxing piece)

I forget the others right now. If I get a chance I'll check the disk and get back to you.

Talk to your caregiver. I listened to music during all three of my labors. The doc doesn't need to "hear" the baby's heartbeat so much. If you're on an EFM then it's tracking it all the time. If they use doppler, they look at the numbers on the doppler to see what it reads. If he REALLY needs to hear it for a minute, you can always press pause. Listening to music in labor REALLY can help you relax and also add to the experience.

I have the same problem, I wanted like a soundtrack or something to labor with.

The only ones I found were Celine Dion songs, like Braums' Lullabye, A mother's prayer...she has a whole cd of soothing mommy music.

I also like Allison Krauss - Baby of Mine
and Clint Black - Little Pearl (so cute)

other than those, nature sounds are really relaxing. But if you want something to distract you, try music that you know all the words too, so you can sing to it.

EDIT: John Lennon - Beautiful Boy
Joe Cocker - You are so beautiful
Etta James - At last

Is this your first baby? I can understand you might want music after your labor, but during? You're going to be huffing and puffing and possibly music might annoy you. Plus the doc is gonna need to hear the baby's heart beat, and music isn't something that is going to help. As for afterward, depends on what you like. You might try classical for the baby. Research suggests this kind of music to be stimulating to the baby's brain. Or, you can just take stuff you wanna listen to. Anyway, good luck with your new bundle of joy.

Music is definently a good idea.....I'm guessing you're going natural? Only b/c I will not be using drugs and tunes seem like a good way to help distract from the pain. I'd just say some music you really like. Don't laugh, but I will so jam to backstreet boys and dru hill when I'm in labor, just b/c I like them and they bring back good memories, which would help shut out the pain.

If your looking for something that'll help with mood and relaxation I highly suggest using some Enya. I plan on bringing some with me...as I find her music very relaxing and yet it won't make me overly sleepy. Also try some ambiant techno type music, such as anything by Orbital or Paul Oakenfold.

Best of luck!!!

Push it!!! LOL J/K
This is a good question. I'm currently downloading some songs myself for labor. Go with music that you like, that's relaxing. I'm going with soothing piano songs, and classical music.

The secret of life and you can close your eyes by James Taylor. Anything by James Taylor is good!!!
Beatles song "In my life" and the song "I will".
Lots of different groups have done these two songs if you don't like the Beatles.

Not slow moving tunes. Make it like techno or something with a fast and loud beat.
