I have only recently started to watch House and think it's a terrific show. I just haven't been able to catch exactly what happened to House's leg to make him addicted to pain medication. any one out there know?

He had a blood clot that killed off a large portion of the muscle and caused nerve damage.
It also caused his divorce.

He had an illness that they could not diagnos so it caused him to have muscle death. It was pretty dramatic. He wanted to wait it out,but his fiance at the time decided to over ride his authority when they put him in a chemically induced coma. That is why he is no longerengaged and why he has to walk with a cane and addicted to pain meds. Enjoy the new season. Theyare running repeats of last year all summer long on a couple of different channels. Hope you catch up!

It was explained in one show. Not remembering the exact terminology it was like a blood clot that destroyed the tissue in the leg. He stalled on the operation and when he went into a coma his girlfriend had the leg operated on causing the limp.

House had a muscle infarct..kinda like a stroke ..in his muscle.his gf at the time went against his wishes and ordered a surgery to save his leg without his consent..thus ending that relationship>im a huge House fan.I Believe somewhere in him a kind ,gental man is trying to come out..hehe.

Apparently he developed a life threatening illness and his girlfriend Stacy (the lawyer) had to choose between keeping him alive with a damaged leg or letting the illness get so bad he would die. So she chose to tell the doctors to treat him but his leg would never recover.

i know that his ex-girl stacy put him in surgery against his will for it, and that it was either surgery or amputation, i forget what it was exactly but ti think it was an infestion or a blood clot, it does tell you in like the first or second episode of the second season when his ex-girl stacy comes to him for help with her husband's illness. i hope that is helpfull. :)
